This is a design he did for Ray Gun magazine where he was an art director.
Personally I quite like this design that David Carson did. I admire the overlapping images in this piece. This is because when the images overlap they still look professional and well put together. I also appreciate the font in this image as it's quite bold and stands out. I think this design really does showcase Carson's artistic defining and unique talents and is a good example of why he has become the influential designer he is today. His innovative typography is also showcased in this magazine cover.

This is another design that Carson did. This was one of his first designs that he did for a magazine. The date of this was August/September 1990 and it was done for Beach Culture magazine. This I feel is not a representation of his best work and abilities but I suspect this is because this is his first design professionally and he had not yet developed the ideas and skills that would later make him a well-renowned artist. But in this design, I like the font used for the masthead of the magazine.
Opening scene analysis (action)
Men In Black
The opening scene begins in New York City, and it is presented to the audience as a as usual day with people going about what ever things they are doing. Suddenly, we see a police officer chasing down a suspect. And then, out oat the spere of the moment, a glossy black car pulls up, and two men in black suits step out. They're Agent J, (played by Will Smith), and Agent K, (played by Tommy Lee Jones). They approach the officer and use smooth-looking devices that are called Neutralizers. They flash a bright light in front of the officer's face, erasing his memory of the chase. The device appears to be a flashy pen that wipes memories. After that, Agent J and Agent K head to a nearby alley where they find a group of aliens disguised as humans. They reveal their true forms, which show weird and wacky creatures. The agents use their one of a kind weapons, like the Noisy Cricket, which is a tiny gun that has a powerful punch. They quickly neutralize the aliens and bring back order to the city.
Dark Night
The opening scene in the dark night shows a dark and gloomy night in Gotham City. The subject of the scene starts with a group of criminals, all wearing clown masks, meeting outside a bank. They're armed with guns and seem pretty determined. As the camera moves across the scene, you can the tension of the environment starts building up. The lighting is low and dramatic, adding to the suspense. The soundtrack kicks in, with its intense beats, heightening the excitement. The criminals storm into the bank, taking control of the situation. They're rough and intimidating, making everyone inside terrified. The camera captures their chaotic movements, showcasing the fast-paced action. The NICS elements of narrative and imagery are at play here, as we're drawn into the unfolding story and the visual spectacle. Now, here comes the twist. One of the criminals, who we later learn is the Joker, starts eliminating his own partners. It's a shocking turn of events that adds another layer of unpredictability to the scene. The NICS element of characters comes into play, as we're introduced to the complex and enigmatic Joker character. Throughout the scene, the sound design plays a crucial role. The gunshots, the screams, and the intense music all contribute to the immersive experience. All the elements of NICS (Narrative, Iconography, Characters, Settings) are apparent in this opening scene.
Avengers Assemble film
In the opening scene of Avengers Assemble, the movie starts off with a pretty intense action sequence. It takes place in a research facility where Loki, the main villain, shows up out of nowhere and starts causing chaos. He's got this crazy scepter that gives him mind-control powers, and he uses it to take control of a bunch of people. The Avengers, who are a group of superheroes, come together to try and stop him. Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye all show up one by one.

Competitors and Industry Trends
My main competitors in the education theme of magazines would be magazines such as language magazine, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, TEACH Magazine, Education Matters Magazine, Teacher Magazine, and others. These magazines are my competitors as they are the most popular magazines within the education magazine theme. They are also respectable as they provide valuable insights of information for students and teachers. In terms of industry trends within the education magazine field, a current trend would be topics about, creative teaching methods, new technology being introduced in schools, tips on the best ways to homeschool people, and what certain subjects lead you down certain career ways.
Goals
My goal for my website is to inform people on the latest news going on in education for students from reception to university level. I am to explain
UX (short for User Experience) and UI (short for User Interface). In media studies, understanding helps create engaging and user-friendly digital experiences.
UX design focuses on the complete experience and interaction a user has with a product or service. It includes research, prototyping, and testing to make sure that the user's needs and wants are met. UX designers consider factors like ease of use, efficiency, and satisfaction. Overall, UI design is more about the visual and interactive parts of a digital product. It involves things like layout, typography, colors, and icons. UI designers create visually attractive interfaces that are consistent, intuitive, and not hard to use. In terms of creative media, learning about UX and UI design can help you understand how different media platforms are designed to engage and appeal to their users. It can also help you examine and critique the effectiveness of various digital experiences.
User-Centered Design: Understand your target audience and design the app with their needs, preferences, and goals in mind. Conduct user research to gather insights and ensure the app is intuitive and user-friendly. Use visual cues like size, color, and placement to guide users' attention and create a clear hierarchy of information. Make sure important elements stand out and are easily distinguishable.
Maintain a consistent visual identity throughout the app by using the same color scheme, typography, and imagery. This helps create a cohesive and recognizable brand experience. Create a clear and intuitive navigation system that allows users to easily move between different sections of the app. Use familiar icons and labels to help users understand the app's structure. Ensure your app is designed to work well on different screen sizes and orientations. Consider how the layout, font sizes, and interactive elements adapt to different devices. Make your app accessible to as many users as possible. Consider factors like color contrast, font sizes, and support for screen readers. Provide alternative text for images and ensure your app is compatible with assistive technologies. Optimize your app's performance to ensure a smooth and responsive user experience. Minimize loading times, reduce unnecessary animations, and optimize image sizes. Test your app with real users to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement. Iterate on the design based on user feedback and conduct usability testing to ensure a seamless experience.
This is an idea for a color and font for my magazine masthead and I used InDesign to create it.
This is another masthead idea that I came up with using InDesign. I experimented with the new design as I used a different color and font.
Magazine
Evaluation
This is my magazine cover for which my topic is education. I used a photo that was taken on my last day of secondary school. This seemed most fitting to use for my magazine. This is because although my magazine is going to be aimed at all aspects and stages of education from key stage 1 in primary school to university level (basically reception to university level) my double-page spread article is going to be about and for secondary students. So the most fitting image I thought was to choose a photo of secondary students as the main article was going to be information specifically for them. After choosing an image I needed to choose a title for the magazine and then a font for the masthead. After taking time to think it up I decided to choose the title all things education. This made sense as this title seemed to define what my magazine was about. My magazine is an education magazine that is subjected to talking about everything that is going on in education at all stages so all things education made sense to be the title. For the masthead, I used a font that was blue with white lines on the inside of the letters. I chose this font because it is quite eye-catching and I made the size big so it stands out. After This, I decided to come up with a tagline. The tagline says "Find out all the latest news going on in education everywhere. This was a very fitting tagline as it illustrates that you can find out anything about the educational world which is what my magazine is all about. Even when choosing my date for the magazine I specifically chose November because my article, is going to be aimed at year 11's on tips on how to pass their GCSE exams so in November is relatively the start of year 11 and students would be revising so it would be helpful to have this at the start of their journey.
Double-Page Spread
.PNG)
This is my double-page spread for my magazine. At the top of the magazine, I included the title of my magazine. Even though I wanted my magazine to look as appealing as possible I was too bothered about about making the masthead too big as it is just the double-page spread so I decided to just keep it simple. I also decided to use a different font for it just to change things up. I also added the title of my article as well. I didn't make it bigger than my title but I wanted to make it bold enough to stand out as it is the name for my article. I used a similar font for the title of my main article. I used. When It came to making my article I wanted to make something that would interest the target audience of my article which is GCSE students. The topic of my magazine was tips for GCSE revision so what I did was write the article as someone who has already done their GCSEs and tell them based on my experience what they should do to get the best grades they have. When writing my article I told it from the perspective of a person who is not an academic in school and how he had to work to achieve the grades he did. When I thought of this idea it seemed very fitting as it would appeal to kids who may not be the brightest and it give them encouragement which I feel would be important. I also made sure when I was writing on how it's best to revise in year 11 to make sure that emphasize that you can also have fun in year 11. I didn't want to give off the impression that year 11 is about all work and no play so I made it a point in my magazine to balance revision life with stuff that you like to do on top of that. When it came to adding photos I chose 3 photos I felt would be most fitting. The first photo I chose appears at the bottom of the first page. It is a picture of a year 11 class with their teacher. I thought this was a fitting picture for my topic as it is about GCSE students and students taking a picture with a proud teacher smiling along with the students is the type of look I was looking for in my article. The second picture I chose was a picture of year 11 students on their last day of high school. This was important to me to use this photo as it will be something that a lot of my target audience can relate to as the year 11's that see this will go through their last day of high school soon. Also in this picture all the students look very happy and are smiling which adds to the vibe that I want to create for my magazine which is positive. The last picture I used was a picture of a boy getting a reward for his education. This also was a very fitting image to use as the reason I wrote this article was to give advice to GCSE students on how to be succesfull in exams and having picture of a student getting award for his education fits my topic highly.

These are 2 experiments that I have done with the software XD. These are 2 color pallets that I extracted from the website color. adobe.com and because of the fact there are 2 color pallets I put them on 2 pages.

App Panning Ideas
For my app, I plan for the main premise a trivia app. It will provide entertainment and light-hearted fun. I want my app to be trivia questions for music and sports. My app will inform people about the music and sports industry both past and present. I don't plan for my app to be linked to others for example on some apps like Pokemon Go or Mario Kart Tour where the app allows you to play with multiple players. I plan for my app to be played by 1 person at a time. The users that play my app may be people curious to find out information about what is going on in music and sports both in the past and present. I would want this app to be a mobile app.
An app that is similar to my app is the game Kahoot. Kahoot is a Norwegian trivia game based online. The games (which are known as Kahoots) are user-generated multiple-choice quizzes that can be accessed on a web browser or the Kahoot app itself. To describe the visual appearance of Kahoot it has a varietal color scheme that features blues, purples, and pinks. The home screen of Kahoot displays a background with several shapes and patterns. At the top of the page, you will find a search bar that will allow you to find the different quizzes on different topics and join quizzes that have been made. Below that there at sections that display the most popular and chosen quizzes and also recommended quizzes based on your interest. When you want to join a quiz a bar will come out where you have to type a number code in and then when that's done you enter a name for yourself on the game. Once the game begins a countdown starts and a question appears. Then you have multiple choices to select as the answer that comes under colors such as red, blue, yellow, and green. If your answer is correct then a green tick will appear if you are wrong then a red cross will appear. When this happens a little message appears telling you what place you are in against the other competitors and if you are on the podium of the game. The podium is basically a table of who's winning the game. They feature the 5 top players of the game once the game has ended
My App

Evaluation
This is my app which I call Global Trivia. When making this app I wanted to make something similar to the trivia app Kahoot which is a popular trivia app. I decided to go with the concept of countries for my trivia topic as that is one of the most popular trivia topics on the app Kahoot. When making the front cover, as my topic of the app is trivia about countries I decided to get a map to represent the countries. Initially, I wanted to make the map the front cover fully but due to a play-up with my app (XD) I couldn't do so. So to fill up the space I wanted I added a background with a lot of country flags on it. Under that, I added a start button under this so I could start the game. When making the second page this of course was going to be the actual quiz. To add to the look of the page. I added a title that said Quiz time. I also added a blue background. I did this because I wanted something simple. I also added a home button as I realize that most apps have an option for you to go back to the home screen. I also added a next page button so that you could go to the next page to continue the game. The third page is pretty much the same as the second page but instead of a next page button, I had an answers button as this was the end of the quiz. The next page is also similar to the last 2 pages only instead of questions it is the answers to the quiz. There is a home button on that page as well.
Sound definitions
Diegetic sound=Diegetic sound refers to the sounds that come from within the world of the film or media text. These sounds are heard by the characters within the story and can include dialogue, background noises, and sound effects. It helps create a sense of realism and immersion for the audience.
Non-Diegetic Sound = Non-diegetic sound is the opposite of diegetic sound. It is the sounds that do not originate from within the world of the film or media text. These sounds are put in during the editing process and are not heard by the characters in the story. Non-diegetic sound can include background music, voiceovers, and sound effects that emphasize the mood or atmosphere of the scene. It represents the audience's emotional response and adds an additional layer of meaning to the visuals.
Contrapuntal sound =Contrapuntal in terms of audio refers to a technique where the sound contrasts or contradicts the visuals or the intentional mood of a scene. It creates a purposeful juxtaposition between what is seen and what is heard, which can evoke different emotions or add depth to the storytelling. For example, using upbeat music during a sad or intense moment can create a sense of irony or tension. Contrapuntal audio can be a useful tool in enhancing the overall impact of a scene and engaging the audience in a unique way
ADR=Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR), in audio, is a technique used after production to re-record or replace dialogue in a film or media project. It is also referred to as dubbing or looping. ADR is usually done when the original dialogue recorded during filming is of poor quality or needs to be changed for various reasons. Actors watch the scene and re-record their lines in a studio, matching their lip movements to the on-screen characters. This process ensures that the dialogue is clear, and synchronized, and enhances the overall audio quality of the project. ADR is commonly used in situations where the original audio was compromised by background noise, technical issues, or the need for script changes.
Foley=Foley sound is a technique of creating and recording custom sound effects to improve the audio of a film or media production. These sound effects are typically created in a studio by Foley artists who use various objects and props to recreate realistic sounds that match the actions and movements happening on screen. For example, footsteps, door creaks, or the rustling of clothing are often recorded using Foley techniques. Foley sound helps to bring a sense of realism and immersion to the visuals, making the viewing experience more engaging and believable.
Soundtrack = A soundtrack refers to the collection of music and audio elements that accompany a film or media production. It includes background music, sound effects, and any other audio components that contribute to the overall auditory experience of the project. The soundtrack is carefully selected and composed to enhance the mood, atmosphere, and emotions conveyed in the visuals. It plays a crucial role in shaping the audience's perception and engagement with the story being told. The soundtrack can greatly impact the viewer's experience and is an essential element in the art of filmmaking.
Soundscape = A soundscape refers to the auditory environment or atmosphere created in a film or media production. It encompasses all the sounds, both diegetic and non-diegetic, that exist within a particular scene or sequence. A soundscape helps to establish the mood, setting, and emotional tone of a scene. It includes elements such as ambient sounds, background music, dialogue, and sound effects. By carefully crafting the soundscape, filmmakers can immerse the audience in the world of the story and enhance their overall viewing experience. It adds depth, realism, and emotional impact to the visuals, making the storytelling more engaging and captivating.
Opening Scene

Evaluation
This is my opening scene. When creating my opening scene the first thing I thought of was my favorite films and the opening scene for those films. Because I like drama films or films where the opening scene more a less sets up the plotline for the movie I decided to come up with an opening scene that is not too long but leaves the audience in suspense. I ended up coming up with a scene about a kid who gets warned by his friend about a new street gang terrorizing the neighborhood. I named the gang the triple threats. I ended the scene with the main character's mum telling him about the gang and warning him also. The scene took two days to film. When making the scene I held the microphone and controlled all the equipment for the audio. One of my classmates (Zara) controlled the camera and then the characters were played by 3 of my other classmates (Hannah, Azan and Thomas). I didn't film the scene in a typical way. What I did to speed up the process of filming was when it came to the filming of Azan's and Thomas's conversation was film the characters saying all their lines at once and taking a couple seconds between each line. This speeded up the process of filming. When it came to filming Hannah and Thomas scene I just filmed them both at once acting together. When it came to editing my final product of my scene I used premier pro. Because I had to edit together Azan and Thomas's scenes to make it look like 1 scene of them having a conversation. I got this done by using the cutting tool. The cutting tool allows you to cut in between scenes at any part of it. I cut between each line that was said and matched it with the next line that came in the script. After all this was done I didn't have to edit the scene with Thomas and Hannah as it was filmed with them acting together. After this I added in the music. I got the sounds I used in the project from bensound.com. This site is good as there are alot of sounds and sound effects you can get for free. I added in to sound effects. I added in my first one at the beginning of the scene. At the begining of the scene there is a fade in of it and I thought it would be a good idea to put music in it. I then put music in the fade out of Azan and Thomas's part of the scene into Thomas and Hannah's part of the scene. I then added in the same music that I used at the start of the scene towards the ending part of it. I did this because I felt the music I used at the fade in of the scene would fit the fade out towards of the end of the scene. In terms of the audio quality I feel the audio I recorded was quite good. When filming I made sure that when I held the microphone I held it close enough to the actors that were talking at the time. I did this so that you could pick up were the actors were saying clearly.
